About MTGMeta

MTGMeta is an independent site that tracks what people actually play in Magic: The Gathering — and how well it does. We collect tournament results and decklists from public competitive play, sort them into archetypes, and publish the share, win rate and matchup picture for each one. Everything on the site is built on that spine: the metagame browser, the Commander dashboards, the draft and sideboard tools, and the desktop companion that tracks your own games.

It is run by a small team, not a publisher network, and it is not affiliated with or endorsed by Wizards of the Coast.

Where the data comes from

Every number we publish traces back to a real, public event result. We do not estimate meta shares, and we do not fill gaps with guesses.

• Magic Online — published league and challenge results, including full decklists.
• Paper tournament organisers — event coverage and standings from the platforms organisers publish on, including Melee and TopDeck.
• Scryfall — card data, printings, legality and imagery.
• 17Lands — aggregated public draft and Limited performance data.
• The Wizards Event Locator — store and event listings for the local events pages.

Where a source requires attribution we give it on the page that uses the data. Where a source's data is thin enough that a page would be misleading, we mark the page as low-confidence or leave it out of search entirely rather than publish a number nobody should act on.

How archetypes are decided

Archetype naming is the hardest part of metagame analysis and the place most sites quietly go wrong. Two lists that share 55 of 75 cards are usually the same deck; two lists that share a colour pair often are not. We classify decks with a rules-driven signature model — a deck is matched on the cards that actually define it, not on its colours or its most expensive card — and a human review queue handles the cases the rules are not confident about. When we merge or split an archetype, historical rows are relabelled so the trend lines stay honest instead of showing a fake collapse.

Our editorial standards

• Numbers come from the data, not from prose. In our written meta reports, the statistics are computed before the article is drafted. Analysis explains the numbers; it never invents them.
• Sample sizes are shown. A 62% win rate over 13 matches is not a 62% win rate, and we label it as such.
• Thin pages stay out of the index. Commander, Limited and store pages that do not yet carry enough data are excluded from search rather than padded out.
• Corrections are made in place. When an ingestion bug distorts a published figure, we fix the underlying data and the affected pages rather than leaving the old number up.

What you can use for free

The metagame browser, format win rates, the Commander dashboards, spoiler coverage, the local event finder and all published articles are free and need no account. An account adds deck tracking, collection scanning and the desktop companion; a premium subscription adds the deeper analysis tools. Pricing is on the plans page.
